So, It is clear that I have not been posting on my blog, facebook and twitter in a very long time. Being based in NY I grew up loving the rave scene that blossomed in the 90's. The love and passion for music, the passion of the many artists that poured their hearts and souls into what they do helped me fall in love with everything that is RAVE.
Rewind to 2010....... after a year long break I returned to the scene. I was hoping that I would see the beauty I missed and talent I adored doing bigger and better things all while staying true. Sadly what I discovered was a contest, sabotage, envy and underhanded tactics by "DJ's" young and old.
PLUR is gone.
There is no PEACE within the DJ community anymore. NO ONE helps the lift each other up and encourage each other. It is sad that in order to be booked and successful you have to join what relates to a gang to get booked. Terrifying to see drug addicts and top 40 DJ's getting booked as if they are headliners when they cant even get a crowd to dance for 2 freaking minutes!!! They get billed over 10-20 year veterans that have set dance floors on FIRE time and time again. Hell, some so damn good that the headliner had no one caring that they were up next. Sad, isn't it?
What the hell happen to the LOVE that this scene once portrayed? Many a time I have heard "DJ's" and "promoters" boast about the money they are making off of us poor smucks. "I don't care about this rave shit! I'm getting paid for this!" Yet they are screaming PLUR and telling us how much they love us. Riiiiiiiggghhhhtttt!!! Fuck that shit 100%! These "raves" are now glorified concerts with shitty "VIP" packages that offer nothing. What happen to the days when DJ's and Promoters hit the floor with us attendees, gave genuine hugs and SHOWED their love and appreciation for their music?
If you think that for a minute that there is UNITY in this scene then I am sorry to bust your bubble. Unity means being united and standing a common ground. This is severely lacking. So much that it is heartbreaking to see. Too many people are busy grandstanding and talking shit about others all for the sake of trying to look good and attempt to ruin someone else's career. All of this because they are threatened by the success that the next person is gaining and the jealousy of the following they have gained. They BEG these people to perform at their events because they know that without them their event will be a dud. They need the followers and promotions these DJ's can bring. Then the artists are billed at the lowest spots, given the shortest play time AND then not paid properly??? The fuck???!!!! Oh, NO they aren't supposed to be mad at that! NOOOOO. They aren't supposed to be hurt that all of THEIR hard work and talent was wasted. Especially when they could have been working another event doing more AND being appreciated by EVERYONE involved in the event.
RESPECT....... Reread the above passage. I love a humble DJ. I love and respect them and promoters that can show true respect for the career of an artist, their works and all the attendees at an event. Respect for those that are NOT trying to screw people over and steal all that they have worked hard to build.
NYC shame on you!!!! Shame on the promoters and DJ's that continually try to destroy the scene with politics, fave games and slander in order to look better than those that ARE better. I am watching and waiting.
Feel free to inbox my facebook and email all your hate mail. I look forward to reading them all.
NOTE......IF ANY REAL PROMOTERS ON THE EAST COAST ARE LOOKING FOR REAL, PASSIONATE AND TALENTED ARTISTS HIT ME UP. I WILL GLADLY GIVE THEM YOUR INFO. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
Peace and Love.......Anonymous
